Impact modifier, also known as plastic additive, is a kind of compound that must be added to improve the processability of polymer (synthetic resin) or improve the performance of the resin itself during molding. For example, plasticizer added to reduce the molding temperature of PVC resin and make products soft; Another example is to add foaming agent to prepare foamed plastics with light weight, vibration resistance, heat insulation and sound insulation; The thermal decomposition temperature of some plastics is very close to the molding processing temperature, so they cannot be molded without adding heat stabilizer.
Impact modifier plays a particularly important role in plastic molding. The main commercial use of impact modifier is injection molded parts used in automobiles, household products and appliances. Its impact resistance, low density, coloring ability and processing performance make it an ideal material. The medium impact resin grade with high melt flow rate has high flow performance, which is particularly useful for injection molding large parts such as automobile panels.
The impact modifier can adjust the impact resistance of materials. The resin with high impact resistance and low melt flow rate (generally less than 2) can be converted into a film with excellent puncture resistance. The impact resistance and steam sterilization resistance of this film are suitable for making disposable medical waste bags. The extruded sheet can be processed into large and thick parts by hot forming, such as the guard board in the automobile industry and the trunk liner of the automobile.
